Happy Rods-giving!

I know what I'm thankful for this year.

And it makes me wonder what Rod is thankful for.

But I think I know...

No morning walks on vacation!

Until next week, I leave you with this:

See you next week!  Happy Thanksgiving!

Treat Rod

Whenever Rod gets a walk, I make sure to arm myself with treats for various reasons.

Sometimes he needs some motivation.

Sometimes he needs a distraction.

Sometimes he just looks so darn cute.

These cold Fall days result in a lot of treats going in my coat pocket.

After our morning walk, I went about my day.

Rod did the same.

Later when I came home, Rod started using his long schnoz to point at the closet.

He motioned at it violently and coupled it with whine/bark hybrid.  I figured he was demanding attention, so I ignored him.

Since I still didn’t get it, he took matters into his own hands.

I reluctantly obliged.

He sniffed around and pointed confidently with that glorious nose.

Then it dawned on me:

I had left treats in my pocket and Rod could smell them!

You get a treat for being smarter than me.

Rod must think I’m pretty slow.

But he loves me anyway.

Hiding Rod

As you all know, this sight greets me every day when I come home from work:

But on some occasions I come home to this:

However I don’t need to travel far to find him when that happens.

So when one day I came home to this:

And this:

I was a little weirded out.  I checked his other hide out.

Still no Rod – just the usual paraphernalia.

At this point, I became panicked.  My mind immediately pictured a dachshund motivated thief who took my Rod!

I started running around calling his name.

Then I realized the bathroom door was uncharacteristically closed.

I opened it to find a very embarrassed Rod. He was happy to be freed.

I can only speculate as to how this happened while he was home alone but I think this must be pretty accurate:

After this traumatic event, he’s still brave enough to go back in though!

We keep the door wide open.

Birdie Rod Part II

And now, the dramatic conclusion...

I went running from the house like it was on fire, scooping Rod up into my arms very dramatically.

I did the most logical thing I could think of – I drove to McDonalds for a sundae while I waited for help to come.

45 minutes later, help did come.  Trouble was, when I returned to the kitchen to show Mike, the bird was no longer there.

All 3 of us walked around the house like a bunch of creeps looking for the bird.

We found him doing laundry.

Just kidding, he was only perched in there.

Thank goodness he chose the room with 2 doors – one leading outside.  Mike opened it up and the bird casually walked – yes, walked – back outside.

Much of the downstairs floor was covered in bird poop, however the upstairs was untouched.  I can only imagine it was because the bird encountered this at the top of the stairs:

Rod probably remembers it like this:

Good job, Rod!!

On fireplace patrol.
